NEW RATING IS ONE STAR!
Per my final paragraph in this review, here is an update:
Well, things HAVE “gone south” with this watch. Here are the details….
Initially, I wrote the review as both a helpful one (for those having problems with setting or using the watch and the app.), AND, an actual review of the watch and my assessment of it at the time. As of today 6-20 the watch is basically useless. It began to register really inaccurate results for sleep, BP, heart rate etc. so I contacted Amazon for help. We went through a litany of fixes including completely resetting the watch and uninstalling the app. These actions removed all my accumulated data which didn’t make me too happy but we were trying everything and unfortunately, nothing helped. I contacted the seller per the Amazon representative and waited for a response…2-4-6-8 who don’t I appreciate??? The seller… who never responded. So, 8 days after my initial contact with Amazon and attempted contact with the seller, I reconnected with Amazon. By now, the watch face had become covered with both horizontal and vertical lines which obscured the face to the point of uselessness. Amazon reviewed my initial contact and my current situation with the watch and rectified my problem promptly and efficiently. To them I give my absolute “Thanks”.
I must say, in defense of the watch, if yours continues to work… enjoy it! It is actually a really nice watch with excellent features. MY SUGGESTION: Read the reviews both + and – , then make your choice. Good luck!, and as an aside…as of this moment, my watch will no longer even turn on…
INITIAL REVIEW: You know, I use reviews to help with my decisions to purchase one item over another just as I am sure you also do. Unfortunately, and for whatever reason, many of the reviews for this item contain HUGE inaccuracies. I imagine this could be caused by updates to software, changes in instruction manuals, changes in verbiage in written communications with the company or unwillingness to read or implement instructions, etc., etc., etc.. Hopefully this review will help resolve some of these issues.
#1: From my experience, this company is NOT buying 5 star reviews in return for watchbands. They send an email which states succinctly, that they will activate a lifetime warranty and send two watchbands in your choice of style and color if you send them your order number. That’s it…No solicitation for 5 star reviews in return for anything up front.
Shortly after you activate your warranty and choose your bands, you receive an email stating your order has shipped and giving you your tracking number. It does ask for a 5 star review so others can hear about your experience but NOWHERE does it offer anything for giving a review, five star or not. If you chose to leave a review…it’s your choice of the number of stars to leave and what to write. Hey! Look around on Amazon, most every seller asks for a 5 star review at some point during or after the sale. Hell, Amazon even solicits reviews of sellers from customers.
#2: “Difficulty with or inability to pair the watch to the app” Possibly…if you don’t follow the pairing instructions. No sweat if you do.
(1)TURN ON BLUETOOTH!
(2)Make sure you download the correct app for your phone…Apple for Apple, Android for Android (5.0 and higher). The apps are not interchangeable.
(3)Be sure to then: UPDATE THE APP, DO IT NOW, DON’T TRY ANYTHING ELSE UNTIL YOU GET CONFIRMATION THAT YOU HAVE THE LATEST VERSION.
(4)Open app and enter height, weight, gender, and birthdate so that the app calibrates itself to you and not to some default.
(5)On the device page in the app click “add a devise” the devise is “H80” and will most likely have a corresponding picture. Click or tap on H80 and POOF…magically you are paired.
From this moment on the watch will automatically connect to the app AS LONG AS BLUETOOTH IS ENABLED.
Don’t get rattled. If it doesn’t automatically connect, simply tap CONNECT in the pop-up and you are good to go. Hope this helps anybody having problems.
#3: “The app is mandatory to use the watch features”. Possibly wrong (with a caviot)…I don’t remember it not showing basics before I paired with the app but if it absolutely doesn’t, forgive me.
To the best of my recollection the important features are all available on the watch itself…BP, SPO2, heart rate, steps, sleep time etc. The app however takes things from “basic” to “full featured”. If you want to customize your watch or make your choice of exercises to monitor or myriad other options and features to activate at your discretion…get on Play Store and download the “da fit” app.
#4: “The watch lights up all night and cannot be turned off”. WRONG!
Go to “Other” in the app and set Quick View to on and then set the time you want it to turn off and back on during your chosen hours for example, from 6:00AM on 11:00PM off. Voilà…”cannot” becomes “can”.
#5: “Cannot chose watch face” WRONG!!! Go to “watch faces” in the app and find something you like, click it and Bingo it’s yours. There are many styles and choices, you can even use a picture of your choice.
#6: “The watch BP or steps or SPO2 etc., are highly inaccurate”. This one is subjective in that I have no idea nor control over how each individual has their watch set up. For example, cheating on your height, weight, gender or age can cause inaccuracies in the data produced. You may be wearing the watch to loose or to tight to get accurate feedback. Super hairy wrists or body creams/lotions can effect readings as can buildup on the wrist sensors.
Personally, I have two different cuff BP monitors which I trust and use the average of 3 measurements taken 1 minute apart. My H80 agrees closely with these averaged readings. I also have a finger SPO2 and pulse monitor which agrees with the readings from this watch either exactly or within a point +/-. Bottom line for me and my watch…I find no reasons not to trust the readings given by this watch to date.
#7: I really believe that most of the negatives stated by others concerning this watch can be overcome through correct installation, setup, pairing, connection to bluetooth and the internet and proper usage by the individual owners of the watch.
As of this moment I am enjoying it and what it offers within the limits of its scope. I think it’s a really good value at this price point. Try it, what have you got to lose?
I gave it 5 stars because as of this moment…that’s what it deserves. If things suddenly go south…I will let you know and re-rate as necessary.
