The Reason for Selection:
I have an E-Trex that I would like to be able to have handy on my pack
General observations:
Nifty idea. At 55 grams it is not a big weight penalty.
It took me a few minutes to figure out how to attach the mount to my E-Trex GPS. It was easier than I was making it out to be. The simplicity of the design is very good. There is an ABS plastic fitting mount that slides onto and locks on to the GPS. The mount then attaches to a backpack mount with a quarter turn.
The backpack mount is able to be attached to a shoulder strap on your pack and secured with a wide velcro loop.
The backpack mount can also be attached to a belt as well. If you have a hip belt that has 1″ strap, the mount can be attached there as well.
The system also has a coiled cable tether that connects the two mounts. If you drop your GPS, it won’t go very far because of the cable. The nice part is that if the coiled tether cable breaks or wears out, it is easy to replace with cordage of your choosing.
The coiled tether cable is attached to both plastic pieces with a two split ring binder loops. The binder loops are very tight and not easy to pull apart. Still, I plan on taking a moment to inspect them at the start every hike to make sure they are still tight.
The Good:
Lightweight and sturdy ABS plastic components
The Bad:
Nothing Bad.
The Ugly:
Nothing Ugly.
Value for Price:
From my perspective and experience, the price of $20.79 is fair.
